Coeur Mining (CDE) announced the acquisition of GP10X member SilverCrest Metals (SILV) this morning in a deal valued at $10.77 per SilverCrest share. SilverCrest Metals began trading at $0.12 per share in 2016, this is an 8,875% return for my GP10X members!
GP has been following value creator CEO Eric Fier for 15 years. Fier created SilverCrest Mining which was taken over by First Majestic Silver for $114 mil in 2015. SilverCrest Mining was a GP favorite attracted by strong FCF yield of over 20%.
CEO Fier wisely spun out its Las Chispas project to shareholders in the deal creating SilverCrest 2.0 known as SilverCrest Metals. SilverCrest Metals began trading at about $0.06 per share, and its being taken out now at $10.77 per share.
Fier is working on a spinout from SilverCrest Metals in this Coeur deal which would be SilverCrest 3.0. When/if SilverCrest 3.0 begins trading we will jump back on board to align ourselves with CEO Fier, a proven value creator in the business.
This is the second acquisition YTD for the GP10X portfolio. Reunion Gold was taken over by G Mining in a $650 mil deal earlier this year resulting in a 72% YTD gain for GP10X members. SilverCrest deal value implies a 73% YTD return for GP10X, well above benchmark GDX up only 28% YTD.
GP10X members already have received two free stock spinouts this year. Greenheart Gold, which holds Reunion’s other projects in Guyana, and Vizsla Royalties spun out from Vizsla Silver. CEO Fier is working on a spinout from SilverCrest Metals as well.
